It's a phenomenal company with awesome products. I shared it with my friends, and they have seen the same thing I have...it works! So, I decided to use this blog, temporarily, as a posting board. It'll be for posting results, congratulating each other on our successes, ideas and tips to share etc.. This will be for current members only, so you'll have to send me an email (ellenay@cox.net) or post your comment here. I'll start with myself. I've been on it for 4 wks now, and I've lost 5 lbs, 2" on my waist, an inch on my arms, and 2" on my hips. My thyroid issues are almost gone. I was having tons of symptons that I no longer have. I feel so much better. I have energy. I'm no longer addicted to coffee or sweets, and can eat those things in moderation without a problem. My constant headaches are gone as well. My husband has lost 10 lbs (not fair) :) in 3 weeks time, and has seen a major difference in his energy level. Our kids are now starting to drink it, and I'm looking forward to seeing results with their sugar addictions as well. I'm so thankful to have found this awesome company. Have questions? Send me an email.

I'm excited to see your results, and cheer you on!

Liv Life Well.

Sister Wives...really??

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uXuwSplKMu8/TahLADHf7bI/AAAAAAAAByg/7kqq-WFeOVo/s400/sister-wives.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5595805001216683442" />
Yes, I can't help myself. I have to comment on the show, Sister Wives. I have only seen it twice, but I definitely feel the need to say something about it. My first reaction was total shock that they would even glorify this lifestyle by giving it a show. The second thoughts were how sad that these poor women have such low self esteems that they don't even think they deserve one man all to themselves. It's actually one of the saddest things I've seen in awhile. Maybe it's because it's my Anniversary tomorrow, but it's got me thinking about my life. I thoroughly enjoy being the queen of my own castle, be it ever so humble. I mean, I have the attention, love and nurture from one man, and he from me. Isn't that so beautiful of God's design? My life's accomplishment is met when he is happy, loved, and cared for. That's not my whole life, but you understand what I mean. He has the same goal. I can only imagine what a true mess that situation really is that we don't know about. I can tell by watching that some of the "sisters" are jealous of each other. Yeah, that's a big shock. And not to be mean, but you have to look at the obvious. The ones he's had awhile have lost their looks, and figures a little, and look at the newest edition. She's pretty and fit. I'm only pointing that out because it really shows what this guy, Kody, is all about....himself. I saw the episode where he took one of his wives on a trip with just "their family". She was so needy and desperate. She kept thanking him for making the trip happen to spend time with them all. It was so obvious that this woman was starved for his attention,insecure about the new wife, and saying she was happy without looking like she was. How pathetic for these women to grovel at this man's feet as if he's the one doing them the favor. It really makes me sick. It makes you wonder what kind of teaching they believe that makes this somehow a good idea to them. It's basically legalized cheating where you also bring your affair home to meet the kids and stay awhile. Some setup they have going...for the man.

Yummo

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 352px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-svtOsaxXLq4/TV2NMwV8qJI/AAAAAAAABwQ/48cBmJRseUc/s400/tuscan%2Bbean%2Bsoup1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574767164029446290" />
So, I think going from workout posts to a recipe, can't be a good thing. ha! But, actually, I've been exercising, just at a slower pace. A lot went on as far as setbacks, and such. But, I really wanted to keep it up, just blogging everyday started getting old fast. I realized that at my age, I will have to exercise regularly to keep from gaining weight. It's a little depressing to realize your metabolism is slowing down. That's life though.

Because my family is not feeling so great, I decided to make some comfort food. This recipe is a Tuscan white bean soup. I got it from Giada, but I've changed it to make it my own. Here it is:

1-2 shallots, chopped
2 tbsp. olive oil
3 cans white beans(rinsed)
4 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup heavy cream
1-2 whole garlic, peeled
white pepper (to taste)
sage seasoning (to taste) I used 2tsp. You can also use fresh if you have it.

Start off by putting the olive oil and chopped shallots on med. to saute. Add the rinsed beans, and 1/2 cup of broth. Simmer. After about 10 minutes, add in your whole garlic clove, pepper and sage. Add in all the rest of the broth. I use a submersible handheld mixer to then puree the beans with the liquids. You could use a blender, just be careful since it's hot. After it simmers for about 20 minutes, add in your cream. Take about a half cup of the hot liquid and add to the cold cream slowly before you add to your soup. You don't want curdled cream. Turn it on low, or serve immediately. I love this with crunchy, thick garlic bread. Yummy!

Enjoy!
Lori

Better late than never...

Wed. are hard for me to get everything done. It's just a busy day with school and church, work etc. I got the workout in ( 2 mile faith walk-Leslie Sansone), but blogging about it had to wait til now. I'm trying to get a rythmn here, but I want to work out first, and that has to be flexible.
So, anyway, at least I did it. Busy day and all, I made my goal. I'm just saying that if you make up your mind that you ARE going to work out each day, even for 10 min, you can do it. It's better late than never!
My tip for today is for you to test yourself. Prove you're stronger than you think. I had a tea for a couple of friends the other day, and it was so nice. I loved having them over and really didn't want to be "on a diet". I went ahead and ate the cookie, had sugar in my tea, etc.. The next day, I was right back on track. I still had leftover cookies, so I told myself I could still have one, but limit it to that. You don't have to cut out everything you love, just do it in moderation. When you feel yourself slipping and thinking, "I can probably have just one more.." Stop there and think about how much time on a treadmill you'd have to do just to burn it off. Then, go work out that long before you'll let yourself have it. Believe me, you will realize it's not worth it! Are you in it for real? Then you have to commit to it when the going gets tough.

Ok, that's all for now...I'm falling asleep as I type...zzzz

Nighty Nite,
Lori

Motivational speech ahead~

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 202px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/TTZCWT2Ig2I/AAAAAAAABt8/MfN-6pnWYy8/s400/stretchy%2Bband%2Bworkout.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5563707340714705762" />
I'm on week 3, and I already fell short of my goal...but wait- all is not lost. I had a talk with myself and said,"Get it in gear, girlfriend!!" I had PLANNED to work out on Friday, but the day drug on and I wasn't motivated. I told myself I had earned a day off. Then, Mon. I planned on fitting it in, but you know how it goes... So, here I am on Tues, and I am back in the saddle. I did 20 minute Zumba express & 45 minute strength training with the Leslie Sansone stretchy band workout. It's like working out with a gigantic rubber band and adds resistance and helps you burn more calories. I'm ready to get back in the groove, and remember why I made the decision to do this in the first place. Technically, working out 3-4 times a week is good, but when you have a personality like mine, you need to commit to every day to stay focused. I take off Sunday. I don't count calories and I don't exercise on Sunday. I'm trying to teach myself a new normal. I have heard that if you do something for 21 days straight, you will have a new habit. We are headed in that zone, and I'm committed. Who's with me??!! Everything counts, even a one mile fast walk. It only takes 15 minutes. Commit to even just one mile a day. Get a pedometer, and clip it on your shirt. Even if you walk in your house, you're making progress. No excuses!! Woohoo!

See you here tomorrow!
Lori
p.s. A great calorie saver if you need to cut back a little in your day is to eat cereal for dinner. Today I went to Ireland. My very favorite place I want to go. It was magical! I was so wrapped up in it, I actually walked 10 min. longer than last time! For those of you on CST, Samantha Brown comes on at 11am on the Travel channel.
So I'm doing good on my calorie counting & exercising daily. I'm hoping to have lost more weight by the time I weigh in the morning. I'm an impatient person and this seems to be taking forever. I want everything yesterday. Speaking of that, has anyone ever tried the HCG diet? I'm thinking about it. It's homeopathic, and you lose weight very fast. I don't like the 500 calories a day part of it. I'm pretty much a creature of habit, and I'm cringing at the thought of no orange juice and coffee the way I want it every day. Even if it is for 2 weeks, I gotta live with other people. I'm sure I wouldn't be very friendly.
Some of you have asked me what I typically eat to stay under 1200 calories a day. I actually haven't changed a thing except portion control and limited snacking. I highly recommend writing down every thing you put in your mouth, no matter how unimportant. Even a stick of gum, or a few bites of something. It all adds up. Get a really good calorie counter (there's tons of free ones) and log everything you eat so you can see it. It'll find most anything, even fast food and name brands. That's a great place to start to see where you're at.

That's all for now, Lassies!

Bali was nice...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/TS4TvEZ-RUI/AAAAAAAABtc/1vHVTNfGVk8/s400/1-samantha-brown-travel-320lvg0524101.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561404289206601026" />
To mix it up today (yep, I get bored fast) I decided to do the treadmill during Samantha Brown's Travel show. I really like her. She went to Bali, and talk about beautiful! I was so amazed at the country. The time really did fly by, so maybe this is a new thing I'll add in to my weekly routine. I actually still used my ipod just in one ear so I could hear the workout app I've been using. Not only does it have the perfect beat to keep you on track, it also tracks calories burned.
Did you know you can eat 50 Rold Gold pretzels for 120 calories? I don't know about you, but that's great when you really want to have a snack attack. Add in Ruby red grapefruit sustain for 10 calories, and you're doing great.

Ok, so my friend, Steph, sent me a website with dinners under 300 calories. I'll be trying these out for sure and give you some reviews soon. It's Inky Stinky!" (Lucy to Ethel)
Actually, everything's really going good, I'm just super busy this week due to meetings at our church. We will be having services all week. I stayed on track with calories yesterday, except for I didn't do a full workout. I did clean the house and even set the timer so I would work fast. It's on my ipod as a way to burn calories, so I thought, why not kill two birds with one stone? I ran out of time to blog though, so..here I am. I haven't done my workout today yet, but I'm going to do the Zumba express. It's 20 min.and pretty intense. My arm is sore from the 45 min one with the toning sticks. I knew I needed to take a break from that for a few days.
Anybody have any tips to share? We're listening! Are you exercising? Let's hear how it's going, what you're using, etc.
Here's my tip today to share. At most health food stores they carry stevia glyceride. It's a healthy sugar alternative (not chemicals that are bad.) It comes in a liquid. They have flavors like French Vanilla too. It has no calories and tastes really good. I only like it in hot tea, not coffee though. Don't know why. Anyway, I made a drink out of it by putting a few drops in ice water. It was delicious! I was surprised. Zero calories, delicious and healthy, you can't ask for more.

Til tomorrow....

Day 5, I'm alive! ha ha

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 277px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/TSfEmgt1r0I/AAAAAAAABtM/qMbBcWZ-gsE/s400/thumbnail%2Bvintage%2Bfitness.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5559628430908436290" />
Yep, made it to day 5! I did 45 min. Zumba again today, and let me just say, I was seriously sore. It felt good though. I really think Zumba is the most fun out of all my workouts. I don't even want to admit to how many different ones I have. It's embarrasing. I have Jillian's (Biggest Loser) 30 day shred and Last Chance workout in my menagerie of workout dvd's. Yell at me and call me wrong, but the girls a jerk. ha! I put in the 30 day shred to do today, to mix it up a little, and had to turn it off because it's just no fun. With Zumba, I'm laughing, having a good time, and feel like I'm just dancin' around being silly to salsa music. That's the trick, wanting to do it again. If it's a chore and boring, I won't do it. Jillian never smiles on there either. It's like she's being tortured to even be there. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how it seemed to me....moving on..I have a new favorite drink. It is YUMM-O! I use Melaleuca, and they have a fitness line of drinks and bars etc. The new Sustain energy drink is Red Ruby Grapefruit. I love that anyway, and the drink tastes just like it. It replaces eloctrolytes and has only 10 calories. Definite new fav!
Ok, so I won't post again until Monday. I'll probably do something fun tomorrow, like bike riding, or play the wii, but not a major workout on weekends. Also, I do not count calories on Sunday. It's a free day for me. I don't know what works for you, but I always have to have one day a week to not think about it.

The verdict is in, and I've lost 1 lb. this week! Earth shattering isn't it? I'm ok with it because sometimes it takes a little bit before everything kicks in. Also good to remember that muscle weighs more than fat. Doing any strength training will take longer to see weight dropping. I feel better already, and that's motivation for me!

Here's a great quote that applies to so much in life, but great for what we're doing too. "You can't go back and change the past, but you can start today and change the future" Love it. Stole it from my sister's fb status! ha!

Goodnight friends! I did advanced step for 30 min. Imagine my disappointment when I found out on my calorie counter app that that only burned 85 calories. :( I just have 2 words for that, "BUM....MER!" So, I may have to do something else tonight, like treadmill or a Leslie DVD. Any ole' way, I have stayed on track with doing something everyday since that is the goal. I'm also staying under 1200 calories. It adds up so fast.
How's it going for you? Are you keeping your exercise resolution? If not, jump on board with me. It's so much more fun with friends.
Last night, I was really proud of myself. I didn't eat a snack when we got home from church. I actually wasn't feeling completely ok, so I figured I wouldn't chance it. Then, around 10, I was starving. I felt like I needed something and even headed to the kitchen...."just one cup of popcorn wouldn't be bad..." As I was on the way there, I thought about how hard I'd worked and went and brushed my teeth instead. I was happy to have won that little battle.

Wes(10 yrs.) told me a joke yesterday. Here it is: "What did the Alligator eat after he had his tooth pulled?"......The Dentist! hahahah....

Here's my diet tip of the day: When you're craving something sweet, have a piece of mint gum instead. It totally redirects your craving. Nothing new, I know, but a good reminder.

Happy Thursday!
Lori

Day 3...Weeeeeeeeee!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 253px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/TSTaga_915I/AAAAAAAABs8/N64-8CJAvcM/s400/thumbnail%2Bzumba.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558808090620319634" />
Hi guys, I'm on day 3, and I'm getting in the groove. Today I did 45 min. kicking butt, cardio Zumba. Man, it's intense! It's so fun though. My favorite parts are Belly dancing & the Flamenco. It really is fun. If you think you have to be coordinated to do Zumba, you do. You can do it the wrong way, and it'll still work because you're moving and sweating. It's just so much more fun to follow along the right way. It only takes a few times to get the hang of it if you try hard. I heard that an hour of Zumba burns 1,000 calories! Yeah baby!

Happy Wed!
Lori :)

Day 2 and a protein snack..

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/TSM_URZpiZI/AAAAAAAABs0/FQVeYxSxfg8/s400/daisy%2Bmae%2Bsleeping.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558355982606240146" />
It's day 2, and I'm on track. I did a mile yesterday and played the wii with the kids. Today, I did 2 miles and plan on going bike riding with them this afternoon. I may do 20 min. on the treadmill with my LoLo burn app. It's so cool. You get to use your own music and have a trainer tell you a workout routine. I love it.
Yesterday, while I was doing the Leslie Sansone walking workout, Dasiy Mae(our Jack Russell)was staring at me like "what are you doing, mommy?" It really cracked me up. She thinks she's a ballerina, and starts "dancing" whenever anybody plays with her. There we were, me exercising, and Daisy Mae dancing beside me. I'm sure it couldv'e been on AFV. This is her sleeping after her intense dance routine. :)
Here's something you'll love. My Mom gave me this recipe for Sesame/Peanut butter balls. They are so good and a really healthy snack. Here it is:
3/4 c peanut butter (I used Smucker's all natural creamy)
1/2 c honey
3/4 c non-fat, instant milk powder
1 c uncooked rolled oats
1 & 1/4 c toasted sesame seeds (3/4 c in mix, 3/4 c to roll them in)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. boiling water

Use an iron skillet to toast the sesame seeds. I used organic. It only takes a couple minutes to toast them. Stir constantly. Set aside. Mix together pnb, honey, powd. milk and then add the oats and 3/4 c of sesame seeds. Add boiling water, vanilla and mix thoroughly. Shape in 1" balls and roll in the remaining seeds. Chill in refrigerater or freeze. Makes 2.5 dozen.

These are such a great protein snack with no sugar! Sorry about there being no pictures. I actually took some while I was making these, but I'm pressed for time at the moment. I'll add the pics soon.

Have a very happy day!
Lori

I'm gonna do it!

Day 1~check it out here.
I have decided to do this and today is the first day! I'm excited because I already had my goal in mind to be met by Valentine's Day. It's so cool that this ends on that day and I didn't even know about it until now. So, who's with me? I plan on blogging here each day how it's going, and if I start losing (I mean when) I'll post pounds lost too. This will be open and honest. If I'm doing bad, I'll have to embarrass myself and say it here. So, maybe, that'll help me with my focus. I'm terrible at staying on track with these things, but I seem to be motivated this time more than usual. So, here goes! Cheer me on! I almost forgot, my goal is 20 lbs.

I hope your New Year's resolutions are working for you. Happy New Year! A time for a great, new beginning. I love that. So here goes my attempt to keep up better. So far, so good...

I have written a ton of new year's resolutions. I really want to improve myself, my family and my business. I think goal setting is a great way to keep up with the things you want. Balancing a family and a business is tricky, but I know I can be better. There's always room for improvement, right? Life is surprising, and keeping up can be a challenge. One of my goals is to get super organized. I'm one of those people who really envy people who have that gift of organization. I try sincerely hard, but it does not come naturally to me. For those of you that are, consider yourself blessed. How about sharing your favorite organizing tip? I'm sure the class would love to hear...
On a completely off the subject side note, I just glanced at the tv and saw there is a city with my maiden name on the weather channel(I didn't even know it existed) -weird..
So, anyway, I think I'll go watch the ball drop and kiss and hug everyone. It's a great way to start a new year. Hope you've had a lovely year and a Happy New Year too.

~xo

Trash to Treasure Lamps

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 385px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S-4vgyX3IpI/AAAAAAAABi8/tvRbT1rMFwc/s400/ugly+lamp1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471362837625905810" /> (the base isn't attached yet. I just have it sitting on my iron Eiffel tower for the pic)
I inherited these sad lamps from our neighbors while we helped them move. We were taking a load of stuff to Goodwill for them, and they offered for us to keep anything we could use. I really needed some more lighting in my living room, so I decided to take the lamps with the plan of buying new shades. There was nothing wrong with them except the shades. One was a floor lamp with an attached side table. Somehow, they had gotten too hot and the shade itself had shrunk. After several trips to Lowe's and other stores, I could never decide on what look I wanted. I really liked the handmade, boutique style shades I had just seen in Milton while shopping with Bill on our Anniversary. Only problem was, a.) they weren't exactly what I was looking for. They were close, but not quite there. And b.) expensive as all get out!...Fast forward to today, I'm sitting on my couch thinking about how necessity is indeed the mother of invention. I went and dug out my stash of vintage lace my Aunt gave me last year and some silk roses that could easily be replaced. Hmmmmm.... I see the wheels turning faster and faster....Where's my glue gun??!? ...........
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 337px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S-4vwmX3DPI/AAAAAAAABjE/wiKfxnjTXNM/s400/finished+lamp1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471363109282581746" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 389px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S-4vwzK8SOI/AAAAAAAABjM/s4bL7Zag1AA/s400/lamp+with+light+on1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471363112718059746" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 236px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S-428Mt0oqI/AAAAAAAABjU/ZVxx0p40Mmc/s400/new+table+lamp1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471371005135200930" /> What do you think? Not only did I get my "Boutique-quality" handmade shades, it didn't cost me a cent! My Mom always wants this when they come over. I found it off my favorite "foodie" blog, Food Wishes. I love that guy! Everything he makes turns out fabulous and he does video classes making it so much easier. Now, on to the recipe...

Start with 1 pkg. yeast
1 tsp. honey
3 cups all-purp. flour
1 tsp. kosher salt
1 tbsp. evoo (olive oil)
1/2 cup very warm water

Step 1. Put yeast, honey and water(very warm) in a med. bowl and let it dissolve for 10 min.
Step 2. Add salt, olive oil, and another 1/2 cup of really warm water, and 1 cup flour.
Step 3. Stir, then add another cup of flour, stir, then add another cup of flour. (3 total)
Step 4. Turn onto floured board, will be slightly sticky, knead until smooth and fairly firm..
Step 5.Put a little olive oil in bowl, put dough in and cover with cloth. Turn the oven on 250, then TURN OFF, and put the bowl in the oven to rise for 30-40 min.
Step 6. Turn dough out on floured board, make 4 even quarters, and fold sides underneath itself until you have a smooth, round dough ball.
Step. 7 Put the four pizza dough balls on a lightly floured board and let rest, covered, for 20 min.
Step 8. Press with your fingers to flatten to the size you'd like, or use a rolling pin for very thin crust(my fav). This makes 4 small-med. size pizzas. (I usually double the recipe and have 4 large)
Step. 9. Lightly flour a pizza pan or stone with cornmeal,brush with olive oil, then add 2-3 tbsp. sauce and spread around. Add whatever ingredients you prefer.
Step 10. Preheat oven to 450. Place the first pizza on the bottom rack for 5 min. Then, move to top rack for 5 more minutes. I normally keep 2 pizzas cooking at the same time and keep rotating them.

My favorite toppings are kalamato olives, beef sauteed with garlic and italian seasoning, chopped tomatoes, mozzarella,parmesano/romano cheese, pepperoni, fresh basil,(added after it comes out of the oven) pineapple and pepperoni, chicken alfredo and spinach... What are some of your favorite combinations?

Hope you try this homemade pizza if you have never made it before. I promise, it's so much better than delivery, you'll want to make your own from now on. Not to mention all the options you have. We let each one of our kids create their own pizzas. It's a lot of fun in the kitchen together, and everybody gets their favorite.

Have fun and enjoy!

Sugarbelle's Boutique

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S-D3nHz7ooI/AAAAAAAABis/yGixkT2IzQU/s400/pink+black+bows1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467642199111606914" />
My little sugar pie and I had a bright idea to start making our own boutique-style hair bows. After countless "where are your hair bows young lady!!???" I got fed up. I figured this is one business venture that will kill two birds with one stone. Not only can we make all the bows we want, we know where we can easily get more if they don't make it home! (not that I'm encouraging that, mind you) I think the straw for me was when I bought a gorgeous, black rose, linen headband, and she lost it the second time she wore it. If I didn't know better, I'd think there was a Bermuda triangle for bows that aimed for her head every time she left the house. So, here we are...Bow makers extraordinaire. Well, not really, but we are going to try some new looks in the near future. For now, we have sweet, little clippy type bows. We'd love it if you'd stop by the blog and drop us a quick note on what you think of them. There will be many more and several new styles soon. Also, we'll be having a giveaway to promote our new venture. Hope to see you there! Fun! I found some totally cool things that I'll be using for decor at my shows this year. They need a little fixing up, but they are sooo great! I'll post those when they're ready. Anyway, I highly recommend going to Alyssa's in Milton, Fl. There are 2 shops, one around the corner from the other. The first one is a good size, but the other one is huge! You will find something for sure! The best part is, I got to drag, I mean go with my sweetie! He doesn't care about that sort of thing, but he was a good sport anyway. :) It was a lot of fun.

Oh My! It would bore you to death as well as embarrass me, so let's just not go there, K? But, I will say, I must have adult ADD or some other problem because I can never seem to finish anything. I go from one thing to the next, leaving the remnants of whatever project I'm working on wondering if I'll ever come back. I do, eventually, but everyone else has had to stare at my project until that finally happens. Needless to say, "if it's not fun for all, it's not fun at all". Well, here's where my story begins. A new chapter is here, and hopefully, will be my forever story as a new inproved, organized freak. Allow me to introduce you to my new best friend, The Fly Lady. You heard it here folks. My friend is a fly. Not really, but she is unique. Fly means "Finally loving yourself." This is because when we are not organized and things are not where they should be, you are unhappy with yourself. Possibly, it's even made you a little depressed and having self-loathing. I know because I did that. Flylady.net is a service (free) that you can join that puts a little routine and daily activities to help you stay focused on what needs to get done. Having such a simple helper has really changed the way I look at things. I'm calmer, and feel much more in control of my day. Check it out and see what you think. By the way, the shoes habit, wearing lace up shoes everyday is never gonna happen for me. I wear flip flops everyday. I live in Florida. It's in our rule book somewhere that we have to wear them. I go to Old Navy and buy them in every color. Love them, love them, don't even try to take them away from me. Besides that, I agree with her 100%.

Happy "FLYing" girls!
Lori

p.s. These are the best things ever invinted! If you've never tried them, you're gonna love them!!! They clean just about everything. I have a huge stash of these.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 232px; height: 225px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S7OCpcEMJLI/AAAAAAAABg8/ISWO-0WToAE/s400/mrClean_prod01_img_01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454847222095815858" />

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://throughthevintagegarden.blogspot.com/2010/03/oh-my-ive-finally-learned-to-fly.html' title='Oh My! It's great, and I really love doing it. I find it's very relaxing, and fun to create something out of otherwise wasted time. My very favorite needles are my bamboo ones. They make no noise and they aren't cold like the metal ones. They really make my hands freeze. Whether or not I'm the only weird one that has that problem, I don't know, but it happens to me. You see the white scarf? It's my first "big" project and has several, shall we say, "issues" wink wink. That's ok though, I'm just a beginner, and I'm sure it's all part of the learning what not to do process. The two washcloths, I'm pretty proud of as they are mistake-free. I plan on making matching ones for each bathroom as well as kitchen towels. Yay! This is fun. So, if you're a knitter, feel free to share what you're working on, any great tips, websites etc. I'd appreciate any knitting info. I do plan on going to Unwind the Yarn Shop in Ft.Walton Beach soon. They have classes and lots of cool projects.

Happy knitting!
Lori

Some really good Valentine reads....

For some reason I'm in a serious book phase. I mean,really, how cute is this gelato lip gloss, rose covered sticky notes, and pink sewing kit?..<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1-KHvYt8uI/AAAAAAAABe0/Oh98uFU9J0Q/s400/mini+sewing+kit.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431211541215965922" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1-KHVAwFwI/AAAAAAAABes/dOoj8q6KdMs/s400/rose+sticky+notes.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431211534136121090" />These are just too cute! I bought one for me and one for sweetie pie. She just freaked when she saw it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1-Jpa_MRRI/AAAAAAAABek/2M8VZ9wNxkI/s400/gelato+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431211020344116498" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1-IxeScQMI/AAAAAAAABec/_lVxa_Z8m94/s400/gelato+close.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431210059157487810" />
What is it about miniature stuff? I just love it. I had to refrain from buying the sour apple, jolly rancher flavor (also known as "happy farmer" at our house), as well as hershey's kisses lip gloss. I just figured, what's the point of licking my lips, tasting fake chocolate, but not actually getting any? Isn't that some form of torture in some prison somewhere? The guards probably walk back and forth in front of your cell eating tons of hershey's kisses, and then throwing the little balled up pieces of foil at you.....obviously, we skipped that one. Then, we also found round, rectangle and square paper doilies. We plan on using them for our Valentine's decor in some way. That's always fun...
Know what else you can get for a dollar? A chance to win the "True Love" bracelet on my other blog! Every cent that comes in for the raffle will go to Adier. We are hoping to raise 250.00 (the price of one cow). So, if you haven't already, hop on over there, and buy a ticket for heaven's sakes. You know when you're at the dollar store, one more thing in the basket does add up, but it is affordable. That's kinda what we're hoping for here. If a lot of people give just 1.00, it will add up fast. Not to mention the fact that you may win a sterling silver, custom bracelet! If you do head that way, and buy a ticket, let me be the first to say "Thank you!" Your dollar will count!

With gelato flavored kisses & love~

Lori

Fancy breakfast eggs

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1fl_vtRCBI/AAAAAAAABc8/CxALzi6e6Ao/s400/ramekin+w+bacon.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429060759119267858" />

Ok. I'm going to pretend that I'm some famous "foodie" person, and show you how to make my favorite eggs. This is super easy, but looks like you went to a lot of trouble. I overcooked mine a little, but, here it is anyway...

It has some hoity toity French name, but we'll just go with "Eggs cooked in a water bath" (or) "egg custard." Either way, if you like custardy-style eggs, you'll love these. Just for your info, I never liked under cooked eggs until I had them this way. I prefer it over the ususal way now. So, don't despair. You may love it after you try it.

First step is to have small ramekins. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1fhdwOjNdI/AAAAAAAABb8/COQ1zfdj7R8/s400/ramekins.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429055777096807890" />
Then, butter each one making sure to butter the bottom.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1fhztEnmNI/AAAAAAAABcE/hyVkkQZBI_M/s400/ramekins+w+butter.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429056154206968018" />
Next, crack one egg per ramekin leaving the yolk intact. Try to remove the white piece without breaking the egg yolk.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1fiTJXfRrI/AAAAAAAABcM/xmO98WWvmgM/s400/ramekins+w+eggs.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429056694378251954" />
You'll need eggs (1 per ramekin) half and half (approx. 1.5 tbsp. per egg),any type of grated cheese, salt, pepper, and any additions (I added bacon at the end)
Now, add your cream only on one side, more on that later.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1fi7UFdusI/AAAAAAAABcU/fND8p_3BaOo/s400/ramekins+w+cream.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429057384450210498" />
Now, add your cheese, also only on one side.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1fjNWBDRLI/AAAAAAAABcc/sOe1mcoXA7c/s400/ramekin+w+cheese.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429057694206215346" />
Now, add your ramekins to a heavy pan filled half way with water. I used cast iron, but you can use any pan that can also go in the oven. (Preheat oven to 375.) Cook eggs on Med. heat & simmer just until you start to see the bottom of your egg start to cook. It will start turning white. This is why you put everything on one side.<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1fkHtxER1I/AAAAAAAABcs/-XrowFWbMjE/s400/ramekins+on+top+of+stove.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429058697014036306" />
Now, make sure you use an oven mitt as the handle will be hot, and place it in the oven to cook for 6-7 more min. The egg should be jiggly when it comes out. I overcooked mine a little bit. It's ok, but not as custard-like.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1fkwPa53BI/AAAAAAAABc0/p4pdE8vS3YA/s400/ramekins+after+cooked.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429059393242651666" />
I like to add the salt and pepper at this point since it seems to do something to the eggs when you add it before cooking. Now, just add whatever you like or eat it like it is. I added peppered bacon crumbled on top. Yowzer. It was good! I like it a little less cooked than I did, but it has a wonderful flavor. The only thing that changes is the texture.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my first ever recipe step-by-step post. You really should try these. If you do, you have to tell me what you thought. Please. I would just be so happy. I should mention this is Julia Child's recipe. I talked like her the entire time I made these the first time as if I was on a cooking show. My poor kids. They were looking at me as if I lost my mind. "Mom, seriously, that's getting annoying" ....me: "ok. I'll stop, but you guys are no fun..."

Bon Appetite!

Anna Banana ~ Eco-chic

I already added this on facebook, so sorry if this is a repeat for all you facebookers! This idea we got from the Pioneer woman's blog (click on her link on the right.} This woman, Ree, is so cool. I secretly want to be her *wink wink* (jk) She seems to have a pretty cool life though, and I think part of my envy is my secret life wish. I always had a secret dream of living out west on a ranch with gorgeous horses running wild through the prairie. Too many western romances I've read/watched, I'm sure, contributed to this secret fantasy. Anyway....she homeschools her kids, makes yummy food, and is really funny. Really. I cry from laughing almost everytime I read her blog. So, one day, we stumbled on this craft project on her website, and my little Anna Banana got her wish. She wants to be a "jewelry designer." Hmmmm, wonder where that thought came from?? She makes her momma proud. We worked on our first necklace, and oila! We loved it!! We now have tons of eco-chic jewelry ideas to go with the recycled theme. Just so you know,(time to confess) I'm no tree-hugger. I simply wanted my daughter to have her own little business she could be proud and excited about. One that was affordable. I figure it's a win-win situation. Mommy can save the planet while making sweetie pie a jewelry designer! Now that's eco-chic! Want to see how they're made?<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1OQD-YJJFI/AAAAAAAABZ0/hLf9VDwldS4/s400/styrofoam.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427840373869847634" /> This is all you need! Pick your favorite ribbon, with a needle and thread, sew the first styrofoam piece to the ribbon and tie it off. Now, add til it's the length you want, and sew your last piece of ribbon (6" long) to the end. We used a crystal bead on either end to make it more beautiful. Isn't it adorable?<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 299px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S1OQw-xfK6I/AAAAAAAABZ8/d9d2s4sZsaE/s400/annabanana.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427841147070262178" />
Anna Banana necklaces are available for 7.50 if you don't want the hassle of making it yourself. We will have several more colors, and styles coming soon as well as a really cute Valentine section on the way....see ya then, cowgirls!

Baby, it's cold outside!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 284px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S0lkq752API/AAAAAAAABZU/a9OhJ2CVekE/s400/starbucks.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424977914942062834" />
I won't go on and on about how anti-cold I am, but seriously,I'm freeeeeezzzzziiiiinnnnggggg!!! I do have an amazing remedy though! Dulce de leche coffee! All I can say is... DELICIOUS! Seriously, you have to try it. I made it last night after dinner for me and my sweetie to drink by the fire. It'll warm you up in no time. One way it will do that is give you extra padding-ha! (just bein' honest) Anyway...here's the recipe:

4 cups brewed strong, good coffee
6 oz. dulce de leche (bar or liquid form-I found mine at Publix)
2 tbsp. sugar
1 cup heavy whipping cream
chocolate shavings for garnish

Brew coffee, add dulce de leche and stir til dissolved. Whip the cream with the sugar til stiff. Pour coffee halfway in glass, then dollop on a generous amount of the cream on top. Using a microplane, shave any type choc. over the cream. The recipe was originally on the Pioneer Woman's blog(link button on right.)
I knew something was wrong when my ipod kept randomly choosing workout songs. The signs were everywhere, and I just kept on ignoring them. I think if I make this drink very often, I will have to truly face the music-no pun intended :)

Enjoy!
p.s. Isn't my gigantic Starbucks cup cool? I got it at a garage sale for.25! I can't remember the name of it, but I think it was in Prairie Village. It was a three story old building that had tons of character. It had an old, rickety lift for bringing goods up the three floors crammed packed with antiques and vintage finds. It was amazing how much stuff was there. I could have stayed there for days! I'm planning another trip there to shop with my sister sometime soon. We can shop to out heart's content, and not worry about crying 5 yr. old's looking for the bathroom every 10 minutes. Bethany, my niece sweetly took her to the bathroom for me so I could have a few extra, precious minutes to look around. My sister bought me the COOLEST ever vintage green metal, filing box. As soon as it's organized, I'll add pics then. It was perfect! <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/S0QZZ2QoaQI/AAAAAAAABZE/uvRF0XEJ7nk/s400/me+and+beth+shopping+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423487783113615618" />

I also have the most absolutely AMAZING crepe filling recipe that my sister made up!! It should win awards. We embarassed ourselves at how we made it twice in 2 days! It was that good. You start with the crepes which are easy peezy.

Crepes:
2 eggs whisked, then add 1 &1/4 c milk, 1 cup all-purp.flour,2 tbsp. veg. oil and a pinch of salt. Whisk all together til creamy. Should be consistency of heavy cream when you're done. Cover in fridge and let sit for one hour. Cook on non-stick pan(wiped with oil or butter) on med-high heat til bubbly. Make it cover the surface in a very thin layer. Flip, and cook for 20 more seconds.

The Italian filling:

1 pkg (8 oz) mascarpone cheese
1/4 cup brewed coffee
6 egg yokes
1/2 c sugar in the raw
3-4 oz cream cheese (this will give a little body to the filling)

mix together until smooth and creamy. Spread over warm crepes.
Oh me-oh my! Prepare to make this more than once, double the recipe, and find reasons to make it, such as.."first Monday when it's 20 degrees outside" etc..ha!
I'll post pics of this next time I make it, which will probably be tomorrow! Good thing I bought the Biggest Loser workout. I'll probably need it just to maintain, let alone lose weight. Oh well!

Next up will be my cool, green cabinet, and a diy project that I think is so neat! Hope you will like it too. Have a great first week of the New Year!

God bless you all! :)

Merry Christmas to me!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 211px; height: 254px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SylGTavlk9I/AAAAAAAABXs/K0ui1jG-Nr4/s400/julia+child+book.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415937326300107730" />
Ok, I ordered myself "The Way to Cook" by Julia Child with some Christmas money I was given. It came in the mail today, and I'm doing the happy dance! It looks so great, I wish I had hours to sit and read it. Right now, I'm going a million directions, and have no time to even blog about it. I'm soooo looking forward to when I do have time!! I'm even thinking of pulling a Julia/Julie move and work my way through the book. I won't be bloggig about it or doing it on a deadline, but it should be fun. It will make me challenge myself to try things I probably would never try. For example, for a girl living in Florida, I never eat seafood-never. My kids and husband like it, so I make it for them every now and then. Maybe I should break out of my shell (no pun intended) and try new seafood recipes. I'm so excited to get started! For those of you who remember my whining about recipe books, I do have to say that I watch Julia Child on dvd's and tv, and so I feel like I know how she explains things. She also is known for simplifying hard recipes, so I think I'm in good hands. I haven't forgotten my favorite blogging food chef "Food Wishes". I still think he's great, and he loves Julia Child, by the way, which is another reason I love him.
For those of you interested, alibris.com is a great place to get used books for a good deal. I also have Julia's "French Chef" cookbook on the way because I found it in hardback in good condition for 16.99. Shipping is reasonable too.
Happy cooking through the holidays! I can't wait to try some of Julia's recipes this year, and hopefully start a few new traditions. I hope you will too!

Merry Christmas! ~xo

So we got a kitten....

I admit I have a soft spot for animals. I give in way to easy since this little kitten is the 6th pet to now join our family. We have a giant German Shepherd, Mia, who's 5, a bunny named Molly, 1 yr.old, a bird named Max and Ruby,(my son refuses to call it a girl name, my daughter refused to call it a boy) since we have no idea which sex it really is, it has 2 names. Then we have 2 hamsters, Walnut and Taz (ode to Looney Tunes Tazmanian Devil) I hate the day when the inevitable happens because of how attached they are to these little rodents. Then finally, we have Chino, cutest little kitten ever. We are trying our best not to have an entire food chain in our house, but it looks like that could happen on a really bad day. Mia is not sure what she thinks of Chino. We are training her, but she's like a really fat, playful kid that hurts others without realizing her strength. That's what concerns me most.She may hurt this little kitten on accident just trying to "love" it. Early this morning, around 5am, I heard a strange noise so I got up to check it out. Mia and Chino were facing each other nose to nose and Mia licked Chino on the face. Then, with Mia proudly watching, Chino curles up on Mia's fluffy tail. I was in shock! They must have been hanging out all night becoming best friends while we were sleeping. We have been watching them so carefully, like the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. I still don't know how they ended up together since they were both closed up in seperate rooms. It reminded me of one of my favorite Looney Tunes cartoons. I've added it for you to enjoy.

The latest things to interest me ~

I recently had an apron made for me by Pat, my friend who also does shows with me. It's made from an old slip or whatever they called all that extra stuff they wore under their clothes. It turned out just gorgeous! I loved it to death! See what you think.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SrVwO80ioEI/AAAAAAAABTk/C6lktqNyePo/s400/vintage+apron+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383332331738275906" />
I also took a few pics of a few of the newest additions in my studio. I had a boring cheapy clock, so I took those old postcard holders and made a frame for it! I think it looks pretty snazzy now. Here it is~ <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 298px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SrVw30znnTI/AAAAAAAABTs/GeiVGJPoPFk/s400/clock.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383333033961561394" />
Anyway, I also have a latest song obsession to tell you about. It's called "Take me with you" by Vast. I keep listening to it over and over. I don't know why I do that?? I actually get sick of favorite songs because I kill them a slow, agonizing death with repetion. Weird. That was free info,and in the totally random category.
The newest in foodie world, is that I'm making that French chicken again. I can't remember if I told you about how good it was or not, but it was awesome, so I'm adding the video here for you. You have to try it. Seriously, you'll love it cold the next day too. It's so good.~

Ok, I'm off to prep my chicken. type='text'>Show and Tell from Sat.

I took the kids garage sale-ing this past Sat. and we had so much fun! I especially love a drive in the country on a pretty day, so we just went wherever the road went. It took us to a few sales in the country with horses in the fields and clothes on the line (love those kind!) Anyway, thought I'd "show and tell" some of my finds. My poor kids were always ready to go before I was. But they had fun. They even got to hold some baby chicks, buy a karoake machine (that doesn't work-at least it was just a dollar) a badminton set, a huge blow up soccer ball, and new heely's. All for under 10 bucks, you can't beat it. Then, to top off a great afternoon, I got home and found my books waiting for me in the mailbox! I love the Farm Chicks' book! It has great recipes and cute decorating/storage ideas. I thought it was cool that they all wear boots and aprons, and I had just bought both! I found these great, leather boots in my size! My friend, Pat and I are making vintage aprons soon to be added to my shop. I can't wait to show them to you when they're finished. I think they are too cute.

Happy trails til next time!
Lori

I think I may have an obsession...

I'm strangely drawn to watching recipes on you tube. Food Wishes to be exact. I found him by accident, and ever since I have had to know what this man is doing every day. I think I must be a visual learner -and no, I didn't ride the little bus to school. I just think I don't do well with cookbooks. It's always been a seriously 50/50 chance that it'll be a complete waste of time if I try a new recipe from a book. With this man showing me how to simply do things, cooking/baking is a breeze! I'm addicted. I have planned entire shopping lists out of whatever he tells me to eat. I'm a hopeless follower, but I'm so happy! I'm just thinking it can't be normal for me to think about what new recipe he may be posting 24/7. I mean, really, I DO have better things to do....like....um....well I...yeah ok. I'm headed there now....

Before I go, you gotta try this:

Happy trails, fellow foodies! Bill was cracking up at me yesterday because I freaked out over him buying me a new rolling pin. I have been wanting a "french style" rolling pin forever. I have been wanting to make the perfect pie crust and had been using my old marble dinosaur of a rolling pin to try and do it. It just didn't work. I had mentioned to him I was going to get one soon. Yesterday, while he was at Wal-mart, he picked this Paula Deen one up for me! What a sweetheart! He just laughs at how easily I get excited over stuff like that. I can't wait to try it out!!
Mom, my plate of cookies and tea for breakfast made me think of you! Wish you could've had one, or two or three with me! Cookies and tea for breakfast make me happy :) Wonder where I get that from??? hmmm

Have a happy day full of simple pleasures!

Favorite Friday!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SoYtx4SlV2I/AAAAAAAABOQ/qp5jx9dVuFc/s400/alyssa%27s+shop+01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5370029940633065314" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SoYtxTZ6qCI/AAAAAAAABOI/4Os_ompGPcE/s400/alyssa%27s+shop+03.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5370029930731710498" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SoYtwzeGi1I/AAAAAAAABOA/amMVtp02sss/s400/alyssa%27s+shop+05.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5370029922159332178" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SoYtwLOrJfI/AAAAAAAABN4/QSSHIJ76TOo/s400/alyssa%27s+shop+014.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5370029911357203954" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SoYtv1C_c8I/AAAAAAAABNw/C9n_r-hAj2A/s400/alyssa%27s+shop+013.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5370029905402622914" />
One of my very favorite things to do-ever is go "Junkin" That's what we call antiquing/thrifting/fleamarketing. I look forward to trips with my sisters or friends like it's Christmas morning. The times I go and find the perfect thing for a really great price make me sooooo happy! Today, I went with my little sweetie-junker-in-training, and my sweet friend, Pat. We found some great deals and went to one of my favorite places-Alyssa's Antique Depot in Milton,Fl. I have been going here forever. It was my sisters' favorite place too and we have lots of fun memories shopping there. There is a little booth in the back of the store to the right that has the absolute cutest spot in the whole place! Talk about being inspired~ this place does the trick for me! I would buy the whole room and put it in my house if I could. It's absolutely perfect and I've added it for you to see for yourself. The funny thing is that I don't even care about western or cowgirl stuff at all, but somehow she gives it a very airy, clean linen, Hemmingway feel that you don't normally see. I can't remember the name of her little space, but I'll found out. If you live near Milton, you should definitely drop by sometime. There's something for everyone there. Pat and I will be headed there again soon because we had to cut our trip short this time. There's another Alyssa's around the corner that's even bigger. Can't wait for that!

Hope it was a great Friday for you too~
Lori

Blogging for me...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SoT61tuSrdI/AAAAAAAABNo/DPK9pizG5eQ/s400/kh+garden+chair.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369692456446242258" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SoT602tWMDI/AAAAAAAABNg/qYCZByWeLgc/s400/petunia+urn+hotel.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369692441678327858" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__h-Wo9vWVt8/SoT60G5OG8I/AAAAAAAABNY/kC7F4THF5Vo/s400/apples+in+kh+garden.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369692428843228098" />
I named this blog, "Through the vintage garden" because I sorta feel like my life could be described as a garden and I love anything vintage. Really, everyone's life could be as a garden. There are seasons, like the season of having babies in the house, the season of school,the season of happy times and, of course, sad times too. There are always areas to be worked on, weeds to pull, ground to till, nurturing, etc. There are also blooming roses and sweet tomatoes to wait on til they're ripe. It's a lot like life, isn't it? I also love garden gates. I especially love scrolly iron gates. The picture of the gate above was a gate I saw in Bath,UK that I thought was gorgeous! I wanted to see what was on the other side so badly! I felt like something was really great on the other side and I was missing out. My garden gate is always open and you're welcome to come sit with me awhile and just talk. This blog is going to be random thoughts, things that make me laugh, or feel inspired by, recipes to share, cute things my kids say/do, etc. If you're interested in just my jewelry, you can always go to my website and blog for that. I wanted to keep them seperate. If you want to know more about me, my life and what makes me smile, then this blog's for you. I'm really looking forward to the creative outlet of writing down my thoughts and the satisfaction of that process. If you're inspired by it,or it makes you smile too, then that makes it all the better. That being said, I feel a little like Beatrix Potter on the opening of her letter to the little boy. She said, "I don't know what to write you, so I'll tell you a story.."

Once upon a time, there were 3 sisters(and their mom) who liked to do hair...
Since I was about 14, my sisters and my Mom and I would all do each other's hair, or "frost" it, as we called it. This was a serious time. I was always nervous my hair would fall out. If you've ever had your hair pulled through a cap, you know what I mean. Seriously-brain surgery has to be more pleasant! Anyway, there I would sit with the cap on, losing the feeling in my chin from the plastic ties holding the thing on my head. I would always have a wet washcloth held over my nose since the smell was horrible. They would all be discussing whether or not enough had been pulled through and if it was even, and so on... "Does it look lemon yellow?" "Is it brassy?" These were all phrases we knew well. Then came the BIG moment of truth! Everyone would help in silence as you pulled the cap off with your head upside down in the sink. Then, without fail, if there was still silence, you would panic thinking your hair was striped orange or falling out in clumps and nobody had the heart to say anything. Just about the time you were about to have a heart attack getting it rinsed and ready to flip your head back over, you would hear someone say it's fine, gonna be beautiful, the perfect color etc. -Sigh- You could relax. It was finally over and you could rest in peace knowing you had once again done your hair without major catastrophe. Not every time went so well. Those were the times we all dreaded. So tonight, all on my own, I decided to save a buck, and "frost" my own hair just like the old days. I had every emotion and feeling from painful scalp to when I was scared to look, and then...*yes*!! It was perfect! Another missed failure at doing my own hair,(trust me-the failures are many) and having the joy of sweet and funny memories to go with it.
